Prairie Creek Ethanol gets help to build a rail spur.

An Ethanol plant being developed northeast of Wesley will be receiving funding from The Iowa Railway Finance Authority. Kathy Showalter of PlanScape Partners says “Prairie Creek Ethanol” is one of 13 projects to receive funding through a revolving loan and grant program. Showalter says the money will help Prairie Creek construct a rail spur which will help them in transporting ethanol and dried distiller`s grains solubles from the plant for distribution.

Boone wins Algona High School Quiz Bowl Tourney.

Boone ended up winning the Algona High School Quiz Bowl Tournament held at Algona High School this past Saturday. Coach Twila Wichtendahl says Southeast Polk finished second in the tourney, Algona finished third and Estherville Lincoln Central finished fourth. She says Algona`s third place finishing team consisted of Kraig Thomas, Micheal Wichtendahl, Connor McGuire, Ian Barber and Micheal McMahon.

Algona City Council approves help for YMCA expansion project.

The Algona City Council voted to approve 200-Thousand dollars of support toward an expansion project envisioned by the Algona Family YMCA that includes the creation of an indoor swimming pool. The Council vote was six yes and zero no, Algona City Administrator Cole O'Donnell says the money will come from Local Option Sales Tax revenues with more specifics to come out later this month. Bradley says a target completion date for the project is envisioned for November of 2008.

Bancroft Clinic recives USDA grant money.

The Bancroft Medical Clinic will be receiving a five-thousand dollar grant from the U-S Department Of Agriculture. The money will help fund the installation of decorative lighting in the courtyard area of the building. The funds were presented to the Bancroft Community Foundation Incorporated. The funds will also help pay for landscaping work.

City Elections in the listening area today.

City Elections in the listening area will be contested today. County Auditor Joann Bormann says there will be three contested elections for Mayor in Swea City, Bancroft and Wesley. There are five contested races for city council seats, there is one write in race for Mayor that being in Luverne and also in Luverne is a write in race for a City Council seat. There are seven uncontested races for City Council amongst towns in Kossuth County and five uncontested races for Mayor amongst the 12 cities in the county. County Auditor Bormann says outlying polling places will be open from noon till 8-PM, we are talking about 11 precincts, another five polling places in Algona proper will be open from seven A-M till eight P-M. Klga News will provide result updates from the Kossuth County Courthouse tonight after the polls close at 8PM.

Car/deer accident in Lotts Creek and Whittemore Township areas.

A one vehicle car/deer accident on U-S 18 and 35th Avenue in the Lotts Creek/Whittemore Township area. Kossuth County Sheriff`s Deputy Mike Sankey says in an accident report that 61 year old Darwin Eugene Walker of Wildwood Missouri was in a 2007 Chevrolet Impala going west on U-S 18 when a deer came out of the north ditch and an accident took place. Deputy Sankey says the driver was not hurt. An estimated three thousand dollars damage to Walkers rented vehicle.
