Bridge project update.

Work will be continuing on the bridge project over the East Fork of the Des Moines River even though old man winter has arrived. Project Engineer Roy Gelhaus of the State Department of Transportation office based out of Britt says bridge abutments on the east side of the bridge project on U-S Highway 169 are done and pilings are being driven by workers. Next week concrete footings are slated to be poured. Gelhaus says the Contractor is Christensen Brothers of Cherokee who plan to work in one way shape or form through the balance of the winter so the paving process can go quickly and smoothly come spring time. Taxi service which was offered after hours for a while has ceased after sidewalk space was created on the far west side of the bridge. Two lane traffic has been in effect since the outset of the project last spring.
