Manure spils into Emmet County lake

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources says a broken water line at a hog confinement resulted in manure getting into Ingham Lake in Emmet county.Officials say a line that delivers well water to the 450 head confinement broke, sending manure out from under a storage pit under the facility.DNR officials say before the owners were able to build a dam to hold manure on site, several hundred gallons flowed along a road for several hundred yards before entering the lake. DNR wildlife staff trenched the road edge to divert more manure from getting into the lake. The confinement building is owned by Mark Olson, while Keith Richards owns the hogs. The DNR says the owners have agreed to clean up the spill. They say enforcement action is being considered.
