Scalet Regiment marches well at Fort Dodge

BACK ON SATURDAY
The Algona High School Scarlet Regiment Marching Band performed at the State Marching Band Festival and was awarded a Division "I" rating for its performance at Dodger Stadium in Fort Dodge. According to instructor John Aboud, this was the 29th time the band has had its performance awarded a "Division I " since it started attending the State Festival in 1977. This years Division I rating is the bands 22nd Division I rating in a row. The 78-member band performed a show inspired by the music the popular songwriter, Carlos Santana. His selections in their show were "Everybodys Everything", "She's Not There", "Novus" and "(Da La) Yaleo". The Scarlet Regiment's encore selection as they exited was "Walk Him Up the Stairs".
The AHS band's performance was rated at the Division I level in all captions by the panel of 4 adjudicators provided by the Iowa High School Music Association. Aboud says he was very pleased with the bands performance. He says they responded to the adjudicators comments from Algona Band Day and used them to improve the show and performance. He says the festival day had clear skies but considerable wind. The wind was a factor both musically and for the equipment work of the guard. The Algona High School Band's final performance of its show is scheduled for Friday evening, October 19th, at the halftime of the Algona High School football game.
